The phrase that best describes Celanese is The chemistry inside innovation. The chemistry we offer is beyond the science, it is also the importance of building relationships. With a foundation of sound science and technology, we can work together to help you bring innovative solutions to the marketplace.
Celanese is built on the traditions of using our expertise – intermediate chemistries, engineered materials, polymers, emulsions, and specialty food ingredients – to create a tailored portfolio of solutions for your company. Our commitment to providing you with the “best fit” answer for your needs is what makes us stands apart.
Hostaform®/Celcon® acetal copolymer (POM) possesses a linear structure with a highly crystalline quality that provides a variety of characteristics: outstanding wear, long-term fatigue, toughness and creep resistance as well as excellent resistance to moisture, solvents and strong alkalis.
Its chemical structure provides a higher stability to thermal and oxidative degradation compared to acetal homopolymers.
Most grades comply with FDA and EU food contact regulations (2002/72 EC), and standard Hostaform products have successfully passed drinking water testing at WRAS, KTW and NSF. MT grades, with an active Drug Master File (No. 11559), comply with USP Class VI guidelines. All Hostaform products are also available in a wide array of colors that do not contain heavy metals.
Developed with mechanical longevity and efficiency in mind, Hostaform® SlideX™ POM is an acetal copolymer that significantly reduces noise, wear or friction in the sliding motion of critical parts.
With a high mechanical property profile, Hostaform® SlideX™ POM is ideal for countless applications including, bearings, gear shift systems, stabilizer joints, roller shutter devices, and furniture slide systems. When compared to alternative materials, Hostaform® SlideX™ POM offers a significantly lower coefficient of friction without compromising high mechanical performance.
External lubricants, such as oil and grease, are not necessary. Hostaform® SlideX™ POM eliminates potential for poor lubrication, a root cause for part failure. The intrinsic low-friction properties allow for a smoother, more energy-efficient operation of machines. The inherent ability to resist wear, allows for outstanding, predicable, part performance over the life of the product.
When developing components and machines that exhibit low friction and wear, Hostaform® SlideX™ POM is the optimum choice. With more than 50 years of technical and application expertise, Celanese polymer experts work side-by-side with designers and engineers globally, to understand the tribological requirements of each application. We have developed a complete portfolio of Hostaform® SlideX™ POM grades perfectly suited for extending the life of critical, sliding, mechanical parts.

Fortron® polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) is a high-temperature semicrystalline polymer that provides high thermal stability, very high chemical resistance, stiffness, strength and creep resistance.
By adding glass fibers and glass fiber/mineral mixtures to standard Fortron PPS, it allows:
The Fortron PPS chemical structure provides excellent chemical and thermal resistance. Insoluble in all known solvents below 200°C (392°F), it has very good stability in both typical and alternative automotive fuels.
In addition, Fortron PPS can be extruded with meltblown and spunbond technologies for melt spun nonwovens. Unfilled, high viscosity Fortron PPS is also suitable for extrusion and compression molding to produce sheets, rods and other stock shapes commonly used for prototyping.
It has broad automotive, drinking water, food contact and aerospace approvals.
Vectra® and Zenite® liquid crystal polymer (LCP) is a family of halogen-free, high-performance polymers that provide high-temperature performance in eco-friendly thin-wall applications with exceptionally precise and stable dimensions.
These highly crystalline, thermotropic (melt-orienting) thermoplastics are distinguished from semicrystalline plastics by their special molecular structure, which consists of rigid, rod-like macromolecules that are ordered in the melt phase to form liquid crystal structures.
LCPs have replaced stainless steel in medical applications with several grades compliant with USP Class VI guidelines and ISO 10993. They are resistant to gamma radiation, steam autoclaving and most chemical sterilization methods.
GUR® ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) is a linear polyethylene with a much higher molecular weight than standard PE, which offers outstanding abrasion resistance, superior impact resistance, non-sticking and self-lubricating properties, and excellent mechanical characteristics, even in cryogenic conditions.
As a polyethylene with a very high molecular weight, GUR UHMW-PE is produced as a powder that requires special processing. In the semi-finished industry, the high pressures generated in compression molding and ram extrusion processes fuse the particles together. The material is then typically formed into stock shapes or profiles. It can also be processed by gelation and pressureless sintering.
GUR UHMW-PE premium grades for orthopedic implants and standard grades meet the requirements of heath organizations, such as the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Union food-conformity. FDA Drug and Device Master Files are available for premium grades.
